Nurse Leaders Call for Change During Academy Policy Conference

The toll of misinformation on public health and controversial visitation policies at medical centers were among the topics explored during panel discussions at the American Academy of Nursing's annual policy conference last week. Now is the time for reform, panelists argued, with the pandemic casting a spotlight on nursing and giving the profession unprecedented leverage to affect change. It is time to "recalibrate the social contract" between nurses and society, said Cynda Rushton, PhD, RN, of Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore. "We are not finite, expendable resources."
