Key findings show today’s nurses more diverse, better educated

Data released from the 2018 National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses showed the nursing workforce diversified in race, ethnicity and gender over the past decade. The percentage of the workforce identifying as Hispanic almost tripled, from 3.6% to 10.2%, and the percentage identifying as Black increased by 2.4% to nearly 8% and males increased 2.5% to 9.6% in 2018. Today’s RNs are also better educated, with the survey showing 64% of RNs have a bachelor’s degree or higher, up from 50% in 2008. (Campaign for Action story, 1/24/20)
