CDC: COVID-19 vaccine appears safe during pregnancy

Pregnant women who enrolled in Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine trials were no more likely than their unvaccinated, pre-pandemic counterparts to experience miscarriage, premature birth or other complications, according to data collected so far by researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These preliminary findings come from self-reported data on 35,000 women, many of whom did not know they were pregnant at the time they enrolled in the trials. Advocates for vaccinating pregnant women, who face elevated risk for complications from COVID-19, were reassured by the findings. Except for more reports of pain at the injection site, pregnant women were less likely to experience other reactions to the vaccines than non-pregnant women. (NBC News article, 4/22/21)
