AONL Supports Momnibus Act

AONL expressed support for the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act of 2020 in a letter to Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill. Underwood introduced the bill along with other legislators and the Black Maternal Health Caucus. The United States has one of the worst maternal death rates in the developed world, a problem which disproportionately affects black women. In the letter, AONL Chief Executive Officer Robyn Begley applauded the legislation because it “invests in community-based organizations, supports care coordination, and collects data on maternal mortality and morbidity in minority and underserved populations.” The bill also designates funding to diversify the nursing workforce to reflect the population served. In a statement, the American Hospital Association also commended the legislation for its innovative proposals. (AONL letter, 3/5/20)
