Survey: Retirements loom for nurse executives

A study exploring intent to leave and turnover experiences among acute care nurse managers, directors and executives showed 50% of 1,880 respondents from 47 states planned to leave their current positions in the next five years. Nurse leaders’ reasons for leaving differed across roles with retirement a factor for 30% of all respondents and 50% of nurse executives. The authors noted voluntary reasons for leaving also included dissatisfaction with the job and a desire for advancement. (Nursing Outlook article, 6/18/21)
