Study: Digital tool may improve engagement

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center used a digital tool to improve real-time employee engagement, according to a Journal of Nursing Administration study. RNs, unit secretaries and nursing assistants on eight medical-surgical units with similar staffing patterns could select two times during their shifts one of 10 emotion facial images, ranging from an unhappy face to one that is happy. The authors found capturing and sharing real-time team measurement of the work environment increased survey participation. The authors hypothesize participating teams may have been motivated by the visible, comparable and immediate feedback. They state future research should assess the tool’s validity, reliability and its ability to determine the impact of changes on workplace well-being.
