Nurses can reframe the patient experience

The nursing profession should set realistic expectations with patients about what nurses can deliver and what patients should expect given staffing shortages and other challenges, according to Lyn Ketelsen, MBA, RN, founder and CEO at KLK Leading Change. Writing in the June issue of Nurse Leader, Ketelsen pointed to the airline industry as a model of how leaders successfully reshaped the public’s expectations to focus on safety. She noted leader competencies of change management, coaching, mentoring and visioning will be particularly important as the health care field enacts COVID-19-driven changes to patient care.
