Caring science program can improve self-caring, study finds

A three-session caring science program was successful in supporting nurses and interdisciplinary colleagues to connect to self and caring for others but did not affect turnover, a study found. Published in the February issue of the Journal of Nursing Administration, the study was conducted from April to September 2022 at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley in Pleasanton, Calif. While compassion satisfaction increased, the program did not reduce the intent of nurses to leave 60 days after the program’s completion. The results show caring science interventions alone do not result in improved staff engagement and reduced intent to leave. The authors’ conclude future studies should identify the causes of turnover and address dissatisfaction and burnout.
