Care model improves nurse satisfaction

A new collaborative care model at UnityPoint Health that positions nurses and other clinicians to practice at the top of their license is increasing staff and patient satisfaction. AONL member and CNO D’Andre Carpenter, DNP, RN, says early results show a decrease in call light usage, increased team member satisfaction and an increase in patient communication with nurses at the Des Moines, Iowa-based health system. UnityPoint Health created two roles: an attending RN, who serves as the leader of the collaborative care group and aligns the “best scope of the individual team members to the care needs of the patient” and a clinical lead RN who oversees multiple collaborative care groups. The model enables novice nurses to learn from experienced ones. (HealthLeaders Media article, 6/12/23)
