Alexander discusses nursing’s ‘most trusted’ status

The ability of nurses to ensure their patients’ well-being is why the public repeatedly ranks nurses as the most trusted profession, according to a nurse regulatory official. Nurses spend the most time with patients, often learn about their lives and can intervene to address their social determinants of health, says Maryann Alexander, chief officer of nursing regulation for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Patients routinely see nurses’ competence and the quality care, advocacy and compassion they provide. In January 2023, a Gallup poll rated nursing the most trusted profession for the 21st year in a row. (HealthLeaders Media article, 2/10/23)
