AHRQ toolkit can improve post-surgery complications

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality released a toolkit for improving surgical care and recovery. The toolkit address common surgical complications such as surgical site and urinary tract infections and venous thromboembolism. Created for surgical teams, AHRQ tested the toolkit in more than 300 hospitals. It includes evidence-based enhanced recovery pathways for colorectal, gynecologic, hip and knee replacement, hip fracture and emergency general surgery. The amount of time patients spent in the hospital after procedures decreased significantly. Free printable education materials for patients and their families can be downloaded.
