AHA rural health care report spotlights maternal care

A recent report from the American Hospital Association (AHA) recommends concrete steps to improve maternal health outcomes. These include expanded support for the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) safety bundles; expanded doula care; adoption of the Pioneer Baby and Centering Pregnancy models; and the development of innovative ways of paying for maternal care. The report was produced by the AHA’s Future of Rural Health Care Task Force, which convened 28 rural hospital CEOs and state hospital association executives in 2019 to explore the challenges and strengths in rural hospitals and identify promising approaches to ensuring access to care for America’s rural residents.
