AONL Announces New President-Elect and Board Directors

Chicago (Sept. 20, 2019)

The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) membership elected Erik Martin, DNP, RN, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer, Norton Children’s Hospital, Louisville, Ky. as the 2020 president-elect of the AONL Board of Directors. Martin will assume the presidency Jan. 1, 2021, leading the national membership organization whose strategic focus is excellence in nursing leadership.

Martin oversees nursing practice at Norton Children’s Hospital, a 267-bed freestanding pediatric facility and Level I trauma center serving more than 170,000 patients a year. With more than 10 years of progressive leadership experience, Martin drives nursing efforts around improving care delivery and providing safe, quality care with an exceptional patient experience. Norton Children’s Hospital is part of Norton Healthcare, a not-for-profit health care system with more than 1,800 licensed beds across five hospitals and more than 250 locations throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Prior to joining Norton Children’s Hospital in December 2018, Martin served as executive clinical director of the heart and vascular service line at the Christ Hospital Health Network, Cincinnati.

Martin currently serves as a member of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership Board of Directors and the Advisory Board for Nightingale College of Nursing. He holds a certification in executive nursing practice through the AONL Credentialing Center and is an alumna of the AONL Nurse Manager Fellowship program. He is the recipient of the inaugural Pamela Austin Thompson Early Careerist Award.

Martin holds a doctorate of nursing practice and bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Joseph University, Cincinnati. He earned his master’s degree in nursing from Northern Kentucky University.

Also elected to the AONL Board of Directors, serving three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2020, are the following:

  • Susan Rees, DNP, RN, vice president, chief nursing officer-inpatient, UW Health, New Glarus, Wis.;
  • Pamela Bradshaw, DNP, RN, vice president, chief operating and chief nursing officer, Shannon Health, San Angelo, Texas; and
  • Jerome Mendóza Dayao, MSN, RN, senior associate administrator of patient care services and chief nursing officer, University of Washington Medicine Harborview Medical Center, Seattle.
