UMMS targets community colleges for nurse recruitment

This week the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) announced a $5 million commitment to recruit RNs and other clinical staff from Maryland’s community colleges. The initiative marks the system’s first-ever “One UMMS” unified effort to target new graduates from the state’s two-year schools. The UMMS Community College Tuition Assistance Incentive Program has openings for 300 RNs. New RN hires receive $12,000 grants after successfully completing hospital orientation, licensure exams and certifications. Participants must commit to two years of employment. A parallel program targets LPNs, respiratory therapists and several other clinical roles. (UMMS news release, 12/6/21)
