SpringBoard matches nurses with board service opportunities

To increase nurse representation on boards, the Connecticut Nurses Association collaborated in the development of an educational pilot, SpringBoard to Board Service. The program combined individualized board-match counseling with online and experiential learning opportunities. In studying the pilot’s results, the authors concluded, “With their long histories of envisioning and promoting nurse leadership opportunities, nursing associations are positioned to take the lead on board match mentorship and coaching and ensure continuity of local and community partnerships.” Approximately 4% of nurses serve on hospital boards, with less than 2% serving on nonprofit boards, the authors reported in Nursing Economics.
