NCI thermometers produce high number of false readings

A study by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) demonstrated non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs) failed to meet their advertised accuracy specifications or reliably detect fevers 48% to 88% of the time, depending on the model. The researchers studied six commercially available NCITs. Thermometers of this type have become the primary tool used in public temperature screenings. (Healthcare Purchasing News article, 2/16/22)
