Martin profile details leadership journey

The power of nurses to comfort and support his prematurely born daughter inspired AONL Board President Erik Martin, DNP, RN, to follow in their footsteps, he told Nurse Leader. In an interview in the April issue, Martin described his journey to leadership. One year into his career, he began participating in shared governance and taking on other challenges. He struggled during his first year as a nurse manager and credits AONL’s Nurse Manager Fellowship program with giving him the tools he needed to stay the course. “The networking and relationship building that came with the program made me a part of a community that I will cherish forever,” said Martin, who is chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services at Norton Children’s Hospital, Louisville, Ky. He also discussed the profession’s current workforce challenges and efforts to support diversity and belonging.
