ICN stands in solidarity with Ukraine

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) released a statement last week saying its members – more than 130 in number, including AONL – stand in solidarity with “the people, nurses and all health care workers caught up in the conflict in Ukraine.” ICN CEO Howard Catton said the group was reaching out to nurses in Ukraine to “get their messages out to the world.” The statement noted the Russian Nurses Association had also expressed concern for nurse colleagues in Ukraine, stating, “Politics is far from nursing, and armed conflicts are opposite to the main designation of our profession . . . Together with the whole world, we hope for a rapid resolution of all conflicts and a return to a normal and peaceful life.” In a special bulletin, the American Hospital Association listed ways members can assist Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees. The U.S. Ukraine Foundation is accepting donations for humanitarian efforts and partnering with the AFYA Foundation to airlift donated medical supplies to the region. (ICN news release, 2/25/22)
