Hospital workforce investments are paying off

Workforce investments are paying off at three health systems profiled in Becker’s Hospital Review. At Centura Health in Centennial, Colo., Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Brenda Simpson, DNP, RN, an AONL member, met with 2,500 direct patient care associates to listen to and act on their concerns. Centura instituted salary adjustments, enhanced benefits and a market bonus option. Since the fall of 2021, the health system has seen a 15% drop in nursing turnover and recruited 26% more associates than left the organization. An additional $22 million investment in loan forgiveness and childcare support is on tap for July. The other profiled health systems instituted a student loan repayment program and referral bonuses.
