Enhanced nursing skills improve patient, job satisfaction

In the December issue of Nurse Leader, oncology nurse Scott Roberts, MS, RN, described how using a clinic-expectation document focused on enhancing nursing knowledge and skill produced improvements in overall patient satisfaction, decreased overtime utilization and increased staff retention at the clinic where he works. Roberts developed the project while taking part in the AONL Nurse Manager Fellowship, a yearlong program designed to target the unique leadership development needs of nurse managers. “The partnership of clinic management, shared governance leadership and education department in this project has resulted in noticeable improvements within the realms of patient care, nurse engagement and financial performance,” he wrote.
