Burnout contributes to suicidal ideation in nurses

A cross-sectional survey of 86,858 nurses belonging to the American Nurses Association and 5,198 other U.S. workers found a strong association between burnout and suicidal ideation. In an article in the November American Journal of Nursing (AJN), the researchers reported nurses were at higher risk than other U.S. workers for suicidal ideation, and nurses with such ideation were more reluctant to seek help than those without it. The survey was conducted in November 2017, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
