Room Logistics and Session Flow

You will have 50 minutes total for the discussion using the following format:

  • 15-20 minutes: present the topic
  • 30 minutes: facilitate group conversation around the topic. Be prepared with at least two to three questions to prompt discussion.
  • A volunteer of the AONL education committee will introduce the session.

We receive positive feedback in the conference sessions where people have the opportunity for discussion, rather than just listening to information presented. Please limit your introduction of the topic to 20 minutes to allow plenty of time for conversation. The goal is to have them talk to each other with you facilitating the discussion.

Preparation

Although small groups rely heavily on discussion, this does not negate the need for advanced preparation.

You should develop the presentation portion of your session and practice it until you are comfortable sharing your thoughts and ideas. This will ensure you are able to convey your ideas in no more than 20 minutes.

Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your session. There will be signage and wayfinding staff assigned to assist presenters and attendees in finding the different topic areas.

Encourage questions and discussion

Your abstract was chosen for the discussion format because we believe it is a hot topic people will be interested in discussing. While attendees may have comments and questions, it is useful to have two or three questions prepared to stimulate discussion if needed. As the facilitator, encourage their participation, feedback, and stories. If your group size allows, we suggest you have people introduce themselves in order to use the opportunity for networking.

Audio Visual and Handouts

Audio-visual equipment is provided.

You have the ability to project slides and share relevant materials on the conference mobile app. Presentations must be uploaded by March 25. Instructions for uploading will be shared in March.
