Election Results Mixed for Nurse Candidates

Several nurses ran for national and state offices this year, with some achieving victory or awaiting results in races too close to call at press time. Democrat Eddie Bernice Johnson, who has represented Texas’s 30th Congressional District for two decades, will remain in office. Her colleague, first-term Rep. Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., is in a statistical tie with her opponent. Nurse, pastor and Black Lives Matter activist Cori Bush, a Democrat, won her bid to represent Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. State Representative Erin Murphy, DFL-Minn., retained her seat in the Minnesota State House, and Democrat Sara Rodriguez was elected to represent District 13 in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
