Podcast details how hospitals improved rural food access

A community health needs assessment conducted in Hardeman County, Tennessee, confirmed obesity was a serious health threat for adults and children and accessing food was a problem for many county residents. An American Hospital Association podcast explores how Bolivar General Hospital in Bolivar, Tenn., and Camden Hospital in Camden, Tenn., decided to address food insecurity in the county and take action by partnering with the University of Tennessee Agri-Stension Agency. With a $500,000 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they identified county food deserts and worked with local farmers to set up produce bins throughout the county.
