AONE Names Gail Latimer Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

The American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) today announced Gail E. Latimer as the 2019 recipient of its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honors an AONE member recognized by the nursing community as a significant leader in the nursing profession who served AONE in an important leadership capacity. AONE will honor Latimer during the opening plenary April 11 at AONE’s Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Latimer is a former hospital chief executive officer, nurse executive, consultant and adjunct faculty with more than thirty years of experience in health care. As chief nursing officer at Siemens Healthcare and Cerner Premier, Cerner Corporation, she helped lead the design of clinical information systems to improve daily nursing practice and patient care. She worked closely with clinical product developers, consultants, customers, industry experts and industry advisory groups to help drive the successful use of clinical IT solutions across the world. Currently, Latimer provides consulting services to Allegheny Health Network, Pittsburgh, to support leadership development in succession planning, improve patient experience, manage staff engagement and quality metrics and ensure compliance with financial targets. She also holds an adjunct faculty appointment at Pennsylvania State University.

Latimer previously served as a member of the AONE Board of Directors, chair of the AONE Foundation board and president of the Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders. She is currently is chair of the Pennsylvania State University College of Nursing Dean’s Advisory and Development Council, past chair of the American Academy of Nursing’s Technology and Informatics Expert Panel and serves on the Medic Alert Foundation International Board of Directors.

The recipient of many awards, Latimer received Penn State’s Shirley Novosel Outstanding Nursing Alumni Award as well as the Pennsylvania State University Alumni Fellow Award. The Pennsylvania State University College of Nursing also established the Gail E Latimer Trustee Scholarship.

Latimer holds a master’s degree in nursing administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Pennsylvania State University, State College. She is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and American Academy of Nursing and completed the Johnson & Johnson/Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives at the University of Pennsylvania.
